I'm a 25 year old substitute teacher and personally i dont have a problem with this ring tone, although i can hear nearly every frequency, albeit the 17.4+ ones i cant hear, but i can feel them. Sure they may be slightly uncomfortable, but not as bad as someones phone going off playing some profane song that might offend someone else. And as someone else stated, the vibrate isnt that silent, my phone can be heard vibrating across an entire house!

To be quite honest I have never heard a more annoying sound.

However it's dependant on the hearing ability of the teenager.

I mean I'm 15 years old and according to the mosquito tone I have the hearing of a 39 year old.

But not all teenagers cause trouble. It's just a horrible stereotype we've gained ourselves because of a select few teens in every place.

To be fair, us as teens could make a horrible comment about every other age group, but most people (with intelligence, I admit) choose not to make the hatrid situation worse by doing that.

I'm 18 and I could hear them all. Our TV just burned out so we're borrowing a friend's old one that has been sitting in the garage for ages. Every time someone turns that thing on I can hear it, some days worse than others.

The worst is when there is nothing on the screen so people think it's off, apparently I'm the only one in my family that can hear it cause everyone else leaves the TV on when they're done, drives me nuts.

Some teens have good hearing, some bad. It all depends on which frequency their ears function. I personally tried out all of the frequencies on this website and, according to the results, I am older than 24 years old.

I am a teen, I went through every single sample tone, and none of them seemed to affect me in anyway

Quite frankly if the mosquito ringtone is band I won't be crying myself to sleep - I may even throw a party - that sucker hurts! *For the record, I'm not a discriminatory adult with nothing better to do, I'm just your average 17 year old who also texts in class occasionally* Every time that stupid ringtone goes off on somebodys phone I almost want to cry it causes that much pain - which basically makes the ringtone ineffective because the teacher just has to look at my sudden change in demeanor to know that someone is texting - just put your stupid phones on vibrate like everyone else.

(That's not to say I don't like the idea of the mosquito tone itself - I may actually incorporate at least a component of it into my phone ringer to increase its apparently loudness (to me) without upsetting further a large portion of the surrounding populace)

I couldn't disagree more, as a late 20s adult whose hearing is still good enough to pick up tones into the mid 19khz range. These things can cause fucking agony, and of course those who put them up may end up forgetting they're in place at all because they can't hear them.

One of the houses I used to walk past to catch the train to work had a so-called "ultrasonic" cat scarer that couldn't have been higher than 17-18khz and I usually had to walk past on the other side of the road it was that strident.

Well done on banning this discriminatory (if it works) and plain damaging/antisocial (when it's done wrong) BS.

TL;DR version - "Hurrah, just when I was celebrating the passing of CRT TVs, along came the mosquito - good riddance to that too".

(Meow: If it was someone continually blowing a trumpet in your ear, you'd want something done about it, wouldn't you? Don't be so blazé just because you can't personally detect it. I suppose you enjoy the flicker of an old skool 60 or 56hz SVGA monitor as well... which gives me a raging headache and leads me to all kinds of backdoor hacks to bring it up to a more amenable 72-100hz if the option isn't explictly available.)
